ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Chillicothe motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday evening after swerving to avoid an oncoming vehicle that crossed the center line on Charleston Pike in Harrison Township.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on July 19 on Charleston Pike (Township Road 227), approximately one-half mile south of Township Road 222.
Investigators said Timothy A. McCoskey, 62, of Chillicothe, was traveling southbound on a 2008 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider when an unidentified vehicle crossed left of center into his lane.
To avoid a head-on collision, McCoskey veered off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch. The motorcycle overturned, throwing the rider before landing on top of him, according to the crash report.
McCoskey, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Harrison Township Fire and EMS to Grant Medical Center for treatment.
The other vehicle involved did not remain at the scene and has not been identified.
The Harley-Davidson sustained disabling damage in the crash.
Deputies investigated the incident for nearly an hour, and the roadway was closed while emergency crews assisted the injured rider and cleared the scene.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash and is asking anyone with information about the unidentified vehicle to contact the agency.
