Chillicothe — Photography by a local artist continues on display in the public art gallery through the end of the month. “Finding Beauty in the Familiar” by Pam Pauley is in the Pump House through Saturday.
Her show opened on May 7th, 2026 in the Pump House Center for the Arts, where I asked her about her art.
She said she was a copyist photographer for 30 or 35 years. She said she saw exotic animals online and thought that she would never get photos of them…then realized that local animals are just as remarkable as the exotic – thus the theme of her show.
Pauley said she has captured familiar sights and local wildlife, but she highlights them so we can appreciate the community we are surrounded with. In addition to Yoctangee Park birds and squirrels, she also has third-floor interiors of the long-vacant Howson Building next to the Carlisle Building in downtown Chillicothe.
She said most of her photos on display are for sale. Pauley does not have an online presence, but she can be contacted through the Pump House. Her show runs through May 30th.
The Pump House is open 1 to 4 Sunday, closed Monday, but opens at 11am Tuesday through Saturday. The free public art gallery has a Facebook page and website.
With ongoing construction in Yoctangee Park, the center road past Memorial Armory is now permanently closed – but the Mulberry Street entrance has reopened, so the road through the park past the Pump House is drivable all the way to or from Mill Street.
Coming up in June are the annual “Juneteenth” themed events at the Pump House, including an opening reception on June 4th (and a jazz and blues program at the Majestic Theatre on June 5th). See the flyer below.
