CHILLICOTHE, OH — The final day of April was a busy one for Chillicothe law enforcement, featuring late-night foot chases, a crash at a popular coffee shop, and a bicyclist caught with an active warrant.

Late-Night Bridge Street Chaos

The day began with unusual activity on North Bridge Street. At 1:57 AM, an officer observed two men chasing each other near East Main Street. Shortly after, at 2:33 AM, officers were called to the Speedway at 10 North Bridge Street to handle a disorderly conduct and trespassing complaint.

The disorder continued into the daylight hours. Just before 7:00 AM, a man was reported knocking over trash cans on North Paint Street near the Law Enforcement Complex.

Crash at Tim Hortons and Warrant Arrest

A two-vehicle accident disrupted afternoon traffic on East Main Street at 1:56 PM. According to police, a driver identified as Roger Detty was traveling westbound and attempted to turn left into Tim Hortons (1100 E Main St). Detty reportedly failed to yield to an eastbound vehicle, causing a collision.

Detty was issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left and was found to be driving without valid proof of insurance. During the subsequent investigation of the crash, officers conducted a citizen contact that led to the service of an outstanding warrant.

Bicyclist Snared by Crosswalk Violation

In the evening, a minor traffic infraction led to a significant arrest. At 7:57 PM, an officer spotted a man on a bicycle crossing North Bridge Street outside of a marked crosswalk between Speedway and Cash America Pawn.

The officer stopped the rider, identified as James Valentine, and discovered he had an active warrant for theft. Valentine was arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail. He received an additional citation for the crosswalk violation.

Thefts, Vandalism, and Domestic Calls

Property crimes and domestic disputes rounded out the 19-call day:

  • Financial Crime: A theft and “misuse of credit card” report was taken on South Renick Avenue at 9:35 AM.
  • Vandalism: Criminal mischief reports were filed on East Water Street (vehicle window damage) and Warner Avenue.
  • Retail Theft: Officers responded to theft complaints at 28 North Paint Street and 85 River Trace Lane.
  • Domestic Dispute: Late in the evening (8:11 PM), units were dispatched to South Walnut Street for a domestic violence report involving an intoxicated individual. The investigation is ongoing.
