ASHVILLE — The sound of clashing steel and the smell of open-fire feasts are set to return to Ashville Community Park as the Ashville Viking Festival kicks off its annual two-day takeover on April 25 and 26, 2026.
Since its inception in 2004, the festival—presented by the local Lost Vikings Hoard—has grown into a massive living history event, drawing between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors to the village. This year, organizers are expanding the experience with a third food venue and several new performance acts, promising an even larger scale than previous years.
Plan Your Conquest: The Entertainment Schedule
To help villagers navigate the weekend’s festivities, organizers have released the official Schedule of Entertainment. Attendees can expect a jam-packed lineup across multiple stages, from the high-energy “Combatant’s Keep Joust” at the Battlefield to the “Wenches A’Wailing” at Heimdall’s Horn.
Schedule Highlights:
- The Battlefield: Catch the thundering Combatant’s Keep Joust at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.
- Greenland Stage: Features the PB & J Circus, Daring Douglasses, and the mesmerizing Ramblin’ Rhythms Bellydance.
- Thor’s Feast Hall: Enjoy the musical stylings of Bob Ford, The Shady Ladies, and The Captain’s Daughter while you eat.
- Sunday Only: Make sure to visit Midwest Falconry for a rare look at live birds of prey.

A Legacy of Giving: “Admission” at the Gate
While the festival offers a world-class historical experience, the core mission remains rooted in local charity. Admission is technically free, but in a tradition started by late founder Ed Vallette, guests are strongly encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to benefit the Ashville Food Pantry.
“Even though most of us are not from the area, we are still willing to give back to a community that gives to us,” organizers stated. “It was a decision we made early on, and we aren’t going to change it.”
What to Expect: From Jousting to Jewelry
The festival grounds will be divided into several immersive zones designed to transport visitors back to the Norse era:
- The Saxon Market: A bustling hub featuring artisans specializing in period-accurate creations, including handmade jewelry, leatherwork, and intricate chainmail.
- The Grove of Heroes: A historical encampment where reenactors demonstrate the daily life, customs, and survival skills of Viking-age families.
- Reenactor’s Row: Visit throughout the day for historical combat demonstrations and a look at life and work as it was in history.
