Chillicothe Police Handle Forgery, Shoplifting, and Multiple Warrant Arrests in Busy Monday Shift

CHILLICOTHE, OH — The Chillicothe Police Department stayed active on Monday, March 9, managing a wide range of calls that included theft investigations, high-priority warrant arrests, and targeted traffic enforcement.

The day’s activities were headlined by several individuals turning themselves in to authorities and a significant forgery investigation.

Warrants and Arrests

Law enforcement processed several individuals for outstanding warrants throughout the day:

  • Self-Surrenders: Around 5:15 p.m., Charlie Turner was brought to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) and arrested on an active warrant for Aggravated Menacing. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. Later that evening, Tina Crow turned herself in on a warrant for Failure to Appear regarding a previous theft charge. She was booked into the Ross County Jail.
  • Proactive Contacts: Officers initiated contact with a male in an alley near South Brownell Street shortly after midnight, resulting in a warrant arrest. Another warrant was served later that evening at the Ross County Jail.

Theft and Financial Crimes

The afternoon saw a spike in property crime reports across the city:

  • Forgery and Stolen Property: At 2:35 p.m., detectives initiated a complex report involving Receiving Stolen Property, Theft, and Forgery following an incident on South Walnut Street.
  • Shoplifting: Officers were dispatched to River Trace Lane at 2:40 p.m. to investigate a shoplifting complaint.
  • Residential Theft: A theft without consent was reported on North Poplar Street, where an investigation remains ongoing.

Disturbances and Domestic Violence

Officers responded to several calls involving disorderly behavior and violence:

  • Intoxication and Vandalism: At 6:16 p.m., police were called to Chestnut Street where an allegedly intoxicated male broke a window.
  • Domestic Violence: A welfare check at 3:57 p.m. on East 2nd Street escalated into a domestic violence investigation.
  • Juvenile Complaints: Reports of an “unruly juvenile” on Scioto Avenue and a complaint of Aggravated Menacing involving a juvenile on South Paint Street were also filed.

Traffic Enforcement: Focus on Texting

The department also emphasized road safety, specifically targeting distracted driving. Officers conducted traffic stops for “Driving while texting” on East 2nd Street and East Water Street during the morning commute. Other traffic-related citations included failure to obey traffic control devices on North Bridge Street and driving under suspension (DUS) on South McArthur Street.

In total, the department filed 18 formal reports over the course of the day.
