ASHVILLE – Earlier today, State Route 752 was closed due to flooding conditions. The typical road closing spot is very near Ashville Ace Hardware at 2943 St Rte 752 in Ashville, and when the road closes, the store becomes cut off from the rest of Ashville. Anyone that wants to visit the store needs to drive an extra 5-10 minutes.

Shawn Shook, the store manager says, “It’s been closed 3 times in the last 6 weeks. It absolutely impacts our business. It’s very slow.” Some customers still get through, however. Shook said that one man parked his car on the other side of the closing and walked through the high water. The customer said it wasn’t worth the long detour for a pack of tape, so he just walked through.

Shook said that some people make the detour,  “If they absolutely need something, like a sump pump.” Shook said the authorities attempted to repair the location a few years ago, but they didn’t improve it much. When asked, how long has this piece of road been an issue, Shook said, “We have a 72 year old that comes in here, and he says it’s been flooding every since he can remember.”
