Today, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has officially notified the Postal Regulatory Commission of forthcoming changes in mailing services prices, set to be implemented on July 14, 2024. Among these adjustments is a 5-cent increase in the cost of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp, rising from 68 cents to 73 cents.

The proposed modifications, endorsed by the governors of the Postal Service, are aimed at raising mailing services product prices by approximately 7.8 percent. Pending review by the commission, the price revisions will encompass various postal products:

  • Letters (1 oz.): Currently priced at 68 cents, will increase to 73 cents.
  • Letters (metered 1 oz.): Presently 64 cents, will rise to 69 cents.
  • Domestic Postcards: Currently 53 cents, will be adjusted to 56 cents.
  • International Postcards: Currently at $1.55, will increase to $1.65.
  • International Letter (1 oz.): Currently priced at $1.55, will also increase to $1.65.

Additionally, the price for additional ounces in single-piece letters will increase from 24 cents to 28 cents. The Postal Service is seeking price adjustments for Special Services products, including Certified Mail and money order fees. It’s notable that there will be no price hike for Post Office Box rental fees, and a 10 percent price reduction will be applied to postal insurance when mailing items.

These price adjustments come in response to evolving conditions in the mailing and shipping marketplace and are essential for achieving the financial stability outlined in the organization’s Delivering for America 10-year plan. Despite these adjustments, USPS prices remain competitive and among the most affordable worldwide.

The commission will conduct a review of these changes before they are slated to go into effect. For comprehensive details on the Postal Service’s price filing, including prices for all products, interested parties can visit the commission’s website and navigate to the Daily Listings section. The Mailing Services filing is identified as Docket No. R2024-2. Alternatively, the price tables are available on the Postal Service’s Postal Explorer website at pe.usps.com/PriceChange/Index.
