
MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on crash that left multiple people injured Thursday afternoon in Madison Township.
According to the patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:46 p.m. on February 19 along County Road 8 (Winchester Road) near the intersection with County Road 93.
Troopers said a 2016 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Jessica Berry, 42, of Groveport, was traveling southwest on County Road 8 when it crossed left of center and struck a 2018 Nissan Rogue head-on. The Nissan was traveling northeast at the time of the collision.
Both vehicles traveled off the right side of the roadway following the impact. Authorities reported the roadway was dry, weather conditions were clear, and there were no traffic control devices in the area. The posted speed limit is 55 mph.
Berry was transported by EMS to Grant Medical Center in Columbus with suspected serious injuries. The driver of the Nissan, Angela Fay Jean Penix, 31, of Lucasville, was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
Two passengers in the Nissan were also injured. Kelsy Samantha Copas, 32, of Connersville, Indiana, was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus with suspected serious injuries. A 6-year-old child, was taken by EMS to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus with possible injuries.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the report. Airbags deployed in both vehicles.
Troopers cited “left of center” as the contributing factor in the crash. Alcohol and drug use were not suspected.
The scene was cleared at approximately 8:27 p.m. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
