
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, OH – A single-vehicle crash late Wednesday night on US-23 sent a Chillicothe woman to the hospital and resulted in several criminal citations, according to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:47 PM on April 22 in the southbound lanes of US-23, just north of the Pike County line.
Details of the Crash
According to the reporting officer, Tpr. Dalton Chaffin, 23-year-old Maura Shea Scarbrough of Chillicough was traveling southbound in a black 2008 Chevrolet Impala when her vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck a concrete water well, causing disabling damage to the car.
Injuries and Transport
Scarbrough sustained what investigators described as suspected minor injuries. She was treated at the scene by Portsmouth Ambulance and subsequently transported to Adena Pike Medical Center for further evaluation. No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Investigations and Charges
State troopers noted in the crash report that alcohol and marijuana use were suspected factors in the accident.
Scarbrough has been issued a citation for Operating a Vehicle Without Reasonable Control (4511.202). Testing was performed to determine the level of impairment, though official results were listed as pending at the time of the report.
Scene Cleanup
The scene was cleared by 2:00 AM on April 23. Best Towing was called to remove the disabled Impala from the roadside. Traffic on US-23 was not significantly delayed as the vehicle came to rest off the main travel lanes.
