WALNUT TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Three people were transported to local hospitals Friday night following a two-vehicle collision along US-23 in Pickaway County.
According to a traffic crash report from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were dispatched at 9:36 p.m. on July 31 to the intersection of US-23 and Little Walnut Road in Walnut Township.
Deputies reported that a 2015 Ford Taurus, driven by 20-year-old Austin Michael McDaniel of Ashville, pulled out into traffic while attempting to make a left turn onto US-23. The sedan pulled directly into the path of a northbound 2019 Subaru Outback driven by 72-year-old Randy Ray Mizer of Columbus, causing Mizer’s vehicle to strike the Ford.
The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway and into the grass median, where they came to a final rest. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were rendered inoperable.
Three individuals involved in the crash were transported for medical treatment:
- Randy Ray Mizer, 72, the driver of the Subaru, was transported by EMS to Berger ER with suspected serious injuries.
- Dominic Turner, 20, a passenger in the Ford, was transported by EMS to Grant Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
- Brayden Michael Zwilller, 20, another passenger in the Ford, was also transported by EMS to Grant Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
McDaniel suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. A third passenger in his vehicle, 22-year-old Christopher Kevin Jarvis, reported no injuries.
Investigating Deputy Charles Little cited McDaniel with a failure to yield the right of way when turning left. Authorities noted that weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.
The scene was cleared and the roadway fully reopened at approximately 11:17 p.m.
