South Bloomfield – A local mayor says that he has to resign as mayor after just winning reelection.

According to a letter from Mayor Tom Ramsay Mayor Village of South Bloomfield Ohio he was notified on Monday, November 27, 2023, that Columbus City Code section 161.05 states that no classified employee of the City of Columbus may be a candidate for, or hold the position outside that of, local school board of education, village council member (outside the city of Columbus) or board of township trustee.

“Therefore as an employee of the City of Columbus, I am not permitted to also serve as the mayor of the Village of South Bloomfield, and would have to resign as a city employee or as mayor.

I really was left with no choice as my position with the City of Columbus is my main source of income. Therefore, effective December 4, 2023, I am resigning from the office of mayor of the Village of South Bloomfield.”

Ramsay took office in October of 2022 when former mayor Matt Pettibone has resigned. Since then he finished out the term and sought reelection this year. Ramsay was the only person who ran for the position but received over 600 votes. Ramsay has formally served on South Bloomfield council for many years also.
