CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Sofidel has commissioned a new solar energy system at its Circleville manufacturing facility as the company continues efforts to reduce emissions and increase its use of renewable energy.
Sofidel, a global manufacturer of paper products for hygienic and household use and the company behind the Regina brand, said the photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the facility’s reel warehouse, which was constructed as part of the plant’s recent expansion.
The system includes 8,010 photovoltaic panels with a total installed capacity of 4.65 megawatts.
According to Sofidel, the system has already made a measurable impact on the facility’s carbon emissions. Between January and June 2026, the solar installation helped avoid approximately 1,084 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, based on the area’s market-based emissions factor of 454.9 grams of CO₂ per kilowatt-hour.
The solar project comes as Sofidel continues expanding production at its Circleville operation.
The facility recently began operating its third paper machine, increasing the plant’s annual production capacity to more than 200,000 tons.
“The commissioning of the Circleville photovoltaic system will enable us to significantly reduce the environmental impact of one of our key production sites,” said Antonio Cuccarese, Sofidel America’s Capital Projects Director for Paper Mill and Construction. “It marks another step forward in the Group’s strategy to expand the use of renewable energy worldwide.”
Cuccarese said improving energy efficiency is both an environmental priority and an important part of the company’s competitiveness.
The Circleville project is part of Sofidel’s broader decarbonization efforts. Other recent projects include the installation of a biomass boiler at the company’s Frouard facility in France and a photovoltaic system at its Rothley Lodge facility in the United Kingdom.
Sofidel’s Circleville facility is one of the company’s major production sites in North America and has undergone significant expansion in recent years.
