Sawed-Off Shotgun and Meth During Traffic Stop in Southern Ohio

On December 29, 2021, deputies with the Athens Major Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop on State Route 682. Deputies made contact with the driver, Joshua Willie, age 26, of Trimble.

Sheriff Smith states “Criminal indicators were observed during the stop, and it was found that Willie was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun within the vehicle.” Willie was ordered out of the vehicle and detained. A search of the vehicle yielded the firearm under Willie’s driver seat,
along with suspected methamphetamine and abuse instruments related to methamphetamine.

Willie was transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and booked for having Weapons Under Disability, a Felony of the 3rd Degree and Possession of Drugs, a Felony of the 4th degree.
