Ross County Man in Wheel Chair Threatens Dad Because Children’s Bikes Are in His Way Arrested

Chillicothe, OH – Law enforcement responded to a disorderly conduct call at 323 E 7th St, resulting in an arrest, according to initial reports by Jonathan Davis, filed on May 23, 2024, at 11:23 PM.

Upon arrival, Davis encountered a father, who was armed with a holstered firearm. As a safety precaution, Davis confiscated the firearm before engaging in conversation about the situation. The Dad explained that he and his wife, were outside watching their children play when Steven Berry, traveling on a motorized wheelchair, approached them angrily regarding their children’s bicycles obstructing his path.

An altercation ensued with Berry, during which Berry allegedly threatened to return with a gun. The father claimed that Berry proceeded to run over the children’s bicycles before leaving the scene. Feeling threatened, the man retrieved his firearm from his vehicle.

Another officer was able to locate and apprehend Berry based on the report and the perceived credibility of the threats. Sgt. Cox authorized Berry’s arrest on charges of aggravated menacing and criminal mischief. Berry was subsequently transported to the Ross County Jail and booked on the aforementioned charges. He was informed of his court appearance scheduled for May 24, 2024, at 9:00 AM in the Chillicothe Municipal Court.
