CARROLL, OH — The Fairfield County Workforce Center marked a major milestone as 101 area high school seniors officially graduated from the institution’s 5th Annual Pre-Apprenticeship program, representing the largest graduating class in the center’s history.

The graduation ceremony honored the young men and women who successfully earned industry-recognized credentials across several high-demand sectors, including HVAC, water/wastewater management, carpentry, electrical work, phlebotomy, industrial technology, and plumbing.

Community Leaders Praise Student Work Ethic

Fairfield County Commissioner Steve Davis served as a guest speaker, commending the graduates for choosing a pathway that strengthens the regional economy.

“These graduates have demonstrated the determination, discipline, and work ethic that will serve them well in the skilled trades and beyond,” Commissioner Davis said. “Programs like this are essential to building a strong local workforce, creating opportunities for our residents, and supporting the future growth of Fairfield County.”

The ceremony featured an array of educational and industry leaders, including Dr. Jarrod Tudor, executive vice president of Hocking College; Dr. Martha Kline, interim dean of Campus and Community Relations at Ohio University; and Paul E. Moentmann, president of Fairfield Insulation & Drywall.

Immediate Career Placement

The real-world value of the workforce initiative was immediately apparent. Rick Szabrak, director of economic and workforce development for Fairfield County, revealed that many of the seniors are already transitioning directly from the classroom into the local economy.

“A large number of students already have jobs lined up in their respective fields,” Szabrak noted. “Many others are actively moving through the interview process. That success reflects not only the hard work and determination of these students, but also the Workforce Center’s mission to connect individuals with meaningful career opportunities.”

Tuition-Free Opportunities for Incoming Seniors

The Fairfield County Workforce Center provides these pre-apprenticeship and credentialing tracks entirely at no cost to seniors enrolled in Fairfield County high schools, removing financial barriers to lucrative trade careers.

Students entering their senior year can enroll in the upcoming fall programs. The center will host a mandatory student and parent informational meeting in August to outline open enrollment slots.
