OHIO — After several months of drought, Ohio may finally see relief as rain is forecasted to begin today, according to the National Weather Service. This summer, Pickaway County and surrounding areas experienced weeks without rainfall, contributing to a dire situation where approximately 60% of the state is facing severe to exceptional drought, as reported by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The NOAA Climate Prediction Center has provided some optimism, suggesting a return to a more normal precipitation pattern over the coming months, despite the expectation of warmer-than-average temperatures.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, currently a disorganized system of thunderstorms in the northwest Caribbean Sea, is projected to strengthen into Hurricane Helene later this week as it moves toward the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasts indicate that some of this moisture could reach Ohio in the upcoming days.

Local weather branches are predicting rain for Southern Ohio every day through Tuesday of next week, which could significantly benefit the parched regions of the state. Residents are hopeful that this rain will help mitigate the drought conditions affecting the area.
