SUV crashes into house near Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT – A Williamsport man escaped serious injury Friday when an SUV crashed into the wall of his bedroom on U.S. Route 22.

Steve Whitrock, 67, said he was sitting at the computer desk in his bedroom at 10498 U.S. Route 22 West about 12:49 p.m. when the wall suddenly started to move.

“It sounded like a terrible explosion,” Whitrock said. “Everything started flying through the air – glass, the computer, the printer, everything. It’s a real mess.”

Whitrock said he suffered just a minor scratch on his arm, and he was treated by medics at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Melissa K. Holstein, 36, of Canal Winchester, was transported to Berger Hospital by Circleville Fire Department medics following the crash, according to Deputy Kevin Graul.

Graul said Holstein was traveling eastbound on Route 22 when her Chrysler Pacifica drifted across the center line and went off the left side of the roadway, traveling through the yard of Whitrock’s property and crashing into the side of the home.

Graul said her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

County building inspectors on the scene said the crash did not cause severe structural damage to the house but advised Whitrock to avoid the impacted room until repairs could be made.
