Carl E. Hawks, 78, of Circleville, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Vinton County, to the late Roy and Gladys (Lee) Hawks Sr.
On Nov. 11, 1955, he married the love of his life, Jean L. (Baker), and they were married for 59 wonderful years. Together they had two children, Pamela (Randy) Guiles and Timothy B. Hawks; grandchildren, Todd, Ashley, Chrissy and Eric; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ian and Zoe.
Carl was preceded in death by his brother and his wife, Leroy (Leona) Hawks Jr.
Carl had a passion for music. He owned his own music store in Circleville and created a band named Carl Hawks and the Dynamics. At the age of 14, he recorded his first song, and there was no stopping him. Music was his life.
A dear friend, Lewis Brevard, and Carl would play music for hours and confide in each other. Lewis kept Carl guided in life.
Carl retired from DuPont after 12 years of service.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville, Ohio. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the funeral home, with Dr. Doyne Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow at Hitler-Ludwig Cemetery.
