LAURELVILLE, OH — After six decades of answering emergency calls and protecting his community, local volunteer firefighter Chuck Smith officially retired from the Laurelville Volunteer Fire Department on September 6, 2026.
Smith’s remarkable career in the fire service began around 1966. For 60 years, he served as a dedicated mainstay of the department, helping safeguard residents across Hocking County and surrounding rural areas through generations of growth and change.
“That’s six decades of answering the call, protecting our community, and making a real difference. What an amazing legacy!” community members shared in celebrating his long-standing dedication.
Department members and local residents are expressing their deep gratitude for Smith’s lifelong commitment to public safety, wishing him a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement.
