Amos E. Detty, 78, of Londonderry, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born June 30, 1938, in Vinton County, to the late Amos and Beatrice Kyle Detty.

On March 6, 1960, he married his wife of 56 years, Sharon (Dearth) Detty, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Charla (Dan) Green of Grove City, Mike (Beth) Detty of Chillicothe and Cheryl (Kenny) Wheeler of Londonderry; grandchildren, Dustin and Chip Detty and Reece, Carissa and Ryan Wheeler; brothers, Virgil (Marilyn) Detty of Florida and Paul (Linda) Detty of Georgia; sisters, Delores (Jim) Sowers of Chillicothe and Nila (Jack) Sauner of Circleville; and a sister-in-law, Jackie Dearth.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Olan Detty; a sister, Becky Poole; and a brother-in-law, Vance Dearth.

Amos retired from Mead Central Research as a laboratory technician in January of 1997. After he retired, he volunteered, as a second career, building homes with Habitat for Humanity until his health prohibited him.

In his early years, he enjoyed coaching Londonderry Little League Baseball, and in his later years was a constant figure at his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory, Chillicothe. Burial will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haller’s.
