Eugene T. “Gene” Young, 88, of Circleville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Amanda, the son of Orney and Gladys Mae (Kesterson) Young.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Genevieve Dauterman; and brothers, Ervin “Sam” and Addison Young.
Gene served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from the Container Corporation after 38 years of service and was a member of the United Papermakers and Paperworkers Union.
Gene loved playing cards, hunting mushrooms and small game, fishing, horse racing and casinos, and telling jokes to everyone, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 2256 and VFW Post 3331.
Gene is survived by his dear wife of 69 years, Betty (Wright) Young; children, Linda Young, Larry (Joni) Young, Randy (Polly) Young, Pamela (Michael) Arledge and Douglas Young; 10 grandchildren, Carrie, Tommy, Audrey, Brandy, Marcie, Hunter, Jennifer, Heather, Jason and Dylan; step-grandson, Shane; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Inez (Lloyd) Goodman; brother, Carl Young; several nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Gerhard Kraus officiating. Burial will be in Amanda Twp. Cemetery with military services by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.
