Ethel Grooms, 87, of Circleville, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016.
She was born on Sept. 20, 1928, in Laurelville, to Joe and Mildred (Dumm) Disbennett.
She was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Glen Dale and Lowell Disbennett; and sister-in-law, Sally Disbennett.
Ethel graduated from Laurelville High School and Ohio University, Athens. She taught school nine years at Jackson Township School in Westfall District and 21 years in Circleville City at Atwater and Everts Middle School.
She was a member of Heritage Nazarene Church, Circleville; Evans Senior Center Chorus, Grove City; Delta Kappa Gamma (BetaRho); Retired Teachers Association Pickaway County; American Association of University Women; Christian Womens Club; Golden Moose Club in Columbus; past member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Columbus; and various choruses and square dance clubs.
She loved teaching, family, reading, music and traveling.
Ethel is survived by daughter, Rita Hupp of Circleville; son, Keith (Terri) Grooms of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Aaron (Jane) Hupp of Circleville, Troy (Amy) Hupp of New Holland, Ali (Matt) VanCuren of Laurelville, Krista (Justin) Murphy of Lewis Center, Clint Grooms of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Shanna Grooms of Circleville; sister, Arlen Hunt of Circleville; brother, Doyle (Pat) Disbennett of Laurelville; and by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville, with Rev. William Hill officiating, with burial to follow in Green Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
