Major Remo Joseph Nardi, 81, of Ashville, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Mt. Carmel West Medical Center, Columbus, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Dino S. and Amelia J. (Niccolai) Nardi.

Remo was a member of Vine Life Assembly of God in Groveport; Past Grand Knight of Father Hannan Council #5297 Knights of Columbus; Past Faithful Navigator of St. John F. Newmann Assembly #1761, 4th degree Knights of Columbus; Past District Deputy, Southern Ohio District; Knights of Columbus; Chaplain of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7941, South Bloomfield; Past member of the Ashville Kiawanis; Ashville Knights of Pythias Palmetto Lodge #513, and AMVETS Post #2256, Circleville.

He was a Vietnam veteran serving 23 years in the United States Air Force, retiring from Rickenbacker Air Force Base as Chief of the 301st Air Refueling Wing Navigation Section.

He served as manager of Nicholas Square Apartments, Circleville, for 14 years and was a Meals on Wheels driver for the Pickaway County Senior Center, Circleville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn (Palmer) Nardi.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Anita J. (Hoffner) Nardi; sister, Erina Guarino of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; children, Danny Nardi of Columbus, Remo James (Michele) Nardi of Riverview, Florida, David (Michelle) Nardi of Gahanna, Carla Renee (Terry) Meinberg of Hilliard and Shirley (Pete) Belanger of Foley, Alabama; nine grandchildren, Kelly (Rob), Erin (Dean), Jennifer, Jeremy (Sara), Annie (Mujo), Joey, Ashely (Weston), Aubrey (Jake) and Wesley (USMC); numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Nilo (Phylis) Niccolai and Marino (Fran) Niccolai.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at Vine Life Assembly of God, 434 Main St., Groveport, with Pastor Todd Troyer officiating. Entombment will follow in Lithopolis Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St., Ashville.
