Ruby Eleanor Winland, 88, of Laurelville, quietly passed away at 2:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, to meet with her heavenly father.
She was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Fairfield County, to the late Floyd H. Wolford and Jessie Lucille Shaeffer Wolford.
Ruby is survived by her husband of 70 years, Denver Winland; one son, John (Barbara) Winland; three grandchildren, John Ulrick (Terri) Winland, Trevor (Stephanie) Winland and Wesley (Connie) Winland; two brothers, James Wolford of Seattle, Washington, and Herbert Wolford of Kissimmee, Florida; four sisters, Kitty Ruth Stebleton of Lancaster, Clara Gritter of Daytona, Florida, Helen Williams of Kissimmee, Florida, and Mary Quillin of Winter Haven, Florida; and by many, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by son, Denver “Dickie” Winland Jr.; two brothers, John “Jack” Wolford of Ohio and John “Butch” Wolford of Florida; and by one sister, Lucille Wilson.
Ruby attended the Laurelville First Church of God, where she loved helping and working with children in crafts and with Bible School. She also was a volunteer teachers aid helping Mrs. Fox at Saltcreek Elementary for many years.
Everyone knew her as “the woman who rides the motorcycle.” She will be greatly missed and remembered by family, friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at the Wellman Funeral Home, Laurelville. Per Ruby’s request, she will be cremated and ashes will be buried next to her son “Dickie” at Tarlton Cemetery at the family’s discretion at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Laurelville First Church of God or to Heartland Hospice.
