Young Shooters from Pickaway Diabolos Hit the Mark

Circleville, Ohio (February 28, 2024) – The future of competitive shooting looks bright in Pickaway County, as several members of the Pickaway Diabolos Junior Rifle Club are heading to the North East Region Regional Championship in April.

Regional Spotlight:

  • This prestigious event, held at Camp Perry, Ohio on April 11th and 12th, pits skilled marksmen from high school varsity and JROTC teams against a few select club teams across 27 states.
  • Over 400 athletes competed for the coveted spots in the Precision Class, and nearly 1,000 vied for positions in the Sporter Class.
  • Top performers from this regional competition, along with participants from similar events in Ohio, Alabama, and Utah, will advance to the National Championship later this summer.

Pickaway Diabolos Shine:

  • The club boasts representation in both competition categories:
    • Precision Class: Anna McComb, a junior at Teays Valley High School, showcases her talent and experience. She holds impressive titles like the Junior class champion at the Ohio State Championship and top finishes in open matches.
    • Sporter Class: A young and talented team composed of five members, ranging from 5th to 8th grade, demonstrates their exceptional skills against high school competition:
      • Avery Hines, an 8th grader at Teays Valley, is a decorated shooter boasting numerous wins, including the 2023 Ohio State Champion title in Sporter Air Rifle.
      • Garrett Speakman, an 8th grader homeschooled and involved in various activities, brings two years of experience to the team.
      • Ethan Rohrbacher, an 8th grader at Teays Valley, contributes his three years of experience to the team’s success.
      • Mathias King, a 5th grader at New Hope Christian Academy, showcases rapid growth with less than a year of experience.
      • Joey Rohrbacher, a 6th grader at Teays Valley, adds his two years of experience to the team’s strength.

More Than Just Competition:

  • Founded twelve years ago, the Pickaway Diabolos (501-c3) goes beyond just fostering competitive spirit. It aims to provide a safe and controlled environment for Pickaway County youth to learn valuable skills like self-discipline and firearm safety while allowing them to compete in a recognized sport.
  • The club boasts a legacy of success, with numerous members achieving remarkable feats like competing in the National Junior Olympics, winning state, regional, and national championships, earning collegiate scholarships, and acquiring prestigious Distinguished Expert badges.
  • Open to youth beyond Pickaway County, the club welcomes members from surrounding areas and encourages community support through its sponsors.

This upcoming event offers a chance for these young talents from Pickaway Diabolos to showcase their dedication, skill, and potential on a larger stage.
