ASHVILLE, OH (November 12, 2024) – A residential fire in Ashville on November 11th led to the evacuation of a local home and left two individuals injured. Emergency responders were dispatched to 4800 Duvall Road, Lot 216, at approximately 7:30 pm after reports of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, Pickaway County Deputy Joseph Collins and Ashville Sgt Jester acted to rescue the homeowner and his daughter from the burning structure. Officers from the Ashville Police Department, in coordination with the responding deputy, safely evacuated the pair from the home and moved them to a secure location away from the fire.
In an effort to contain the blaze before the fire department arrived, the officers attempted to suppress the flames using fire extinguishers. With the fire rapidly spreading, they then used a water hose connected to the house to further control the fire until emergency crews arrived on scene.
Once Engine 801 from the Scioto Township fire department arrived, they took control of the fire-fighting efforts. Meanwhile, the officers ensured the safety of surrounding residents by beginning the evacuation of neighboring lots.
After the fire was brought under control, the homeowner, who had been shaken by the ordeal, began to show signs of distress. As he collapsed and started to lose consciousness, officers immediately assisted him and called for medical support. Emergency medical services (EMS) responded and transported the homeowner to the OSU Medical Center for further treatment.
The homeowner’s daughter, who had reportedly suffered from smoke inhalation, was also transported to OSU Medical Center for treatment.
According to officials from Ashville Estates, the fire is believed to have been caused by the resident using his furnace for the first time this year. The furnace malfunctioned, triggering the blaze that spread quickly through the structure.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no further details have been released regarding the conditions of the individuals involved.
