Pickaway County Man Charged with Rape of a Minor Faces Trial

Pickaway County – A 52-year-old man has plead Not Guilty after being arrested for the rape of a child under the age of 18.

According to Court documents a teenager approached a social worker at High School and reported that she had been raped several times by her mom’s boyfriend 52-year-old Mark Whaley of Pickaway County. In the report, the girl reported that a sexual assault occurred in August and then again the day before she reported it. She had saved several evidence items to prove the rape, she also reported that the man had taken several naked photos of her. She told investigators that he took her to Walmart and bought condoms, this information was confirmed with video evidence.

An investigation was launched and a search warrant was issued for the home and for Whaley’s phone. When he was interviewed Whaley at first tried to blame the teen on the sexual advances, and eventually admitted to the investigators that sex had occurred on multiple occasions.

52-Year-old Mark Whaley was arrested and charged with four counts of Rape, four counts of compelling prostitution, and four counts of gross sexual imposition the charges were bound over to the Grand Jury of Pickaway County. Whaley was held on a 100,000 dollar bond and was later released with a GPS monitor and ordered to have no contact with their Girlfriend or Daughter, and not to consume alcohol or drugs.

The Charge of Rape is a felony in Ohio in all forms, each county could hold 3-10 years in prison, the charge of compelling Prostitution is also a felony and can hold up to ten years in prison per charge, Gross sexual imposition is also a felony with charges that could 6 to 18 months per charge. All also come with a sex offender status. A pretrial for this case is set for December 20, 2024
