Pickaway County – Circleville Man Dies in Truck Crash


According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey on January 3, 2024 at 11:36 PM the Pickaway County Sheriff’s
Office Communications Center received an automated message that there was a traffic crash on Florence Chapel Pike west of State Route 104.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2017 black Ford F-150 off the roadway with significant damage to the front-end as well as the cab. Deputies located a male subject in the drivers seat unresponsive.

Upon investigation Deputies learned that the Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound around a curve when the truck lost control, flipped and smashed against a tree, causing the truck to land back on it’s wheels.

The driver of the Ford F-150 34-year-old James R. Herlan of Circleville, Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene by Scioto Township EMS.

Sheriff Hafey would like to thank the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Harrison Township EMS, Scioto
Township EMS and the Pickaway County Coroner for their assistance at the scene. This accident remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
