Chillicothe, Ohio – Chillicothe Police responded to a report of three dogs running loose in an alley behind 181 Gerber Road on Thursday.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the three dogs, which had retreated into the backyard of 253 Western Avenue, where they encountered approximately 12-14 other dogs.

Concerned about the safety of the animals and the community, the officer on scene requested another officer to check the front of the residence in an attempt to locate the owner and secure the back gate.

Upon inspection, officers determined that the house appeared vacant, prompting them to contact the Ross County Dog Warden for assistance.

Upon the arrival of the dog warden, an investigation was initiated, leading to the procurement of a warrant from Judge After.

Officers conducted a thorough check of the residence to ensure safety and noted that the conditions inside were deplorable.

At this time, Chillicothe Police have not released further details, and the investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
