COLUMBUS, OH — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has announced a massive statewide blitz against impaired driving, with local checkpoints scheduled tonight in both Ross and Pickaway counties.

The initiative, funded by federal grants, aims to deter and intercept impaired motorists before they can cause serious injury or fatal crashes. State troopers, in coordination with local law enforcement agencies, will operate the targeted checkpoints alongside nearby aggressive “saturation patrols.”

Local motorists should plan their routes accordingly and expect brief delays at the following locations tonight:

Local Checkpoint Locations

  • Ross County: Checkpoints will be active on U.S. 50 near milepost 21 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Pickaway County: Impaired driving enforcement will set up on South Court Street from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Statewide Crackdown

The local enforcement efforts are part of a coordinated statewide sweep across dozens of Ohio counties tonight, including several nearby Central and Southwest Ohio locations:

  • Franklin County: Frank Road at Gantz Road (8:30 PM – 12:00 AM)
  • Delaware County: State Route 37 West and Lexington Blvd. (9:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
  • Madison County: U.S. 42 near milepost 8 (9:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
  • Licking County: State Route 79 at Scioto Drive (10:00 PM – 12:00 AM)

A Warning to Drivers

State Highway Patrol officials are strictly urging anyone who plans to consume alcohol to designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange alternative travel plans before taking their first drink.

“Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired,” the Highway Patrol stated in a release.

Under Ohio law, the locations and times of OVI checkpoints must be announced to the public ahead of schedule to maximize their deterrent effect.
