AMANDA, OH — A massive residential fire tore through a duplex just south of Amanda on Tuesday evening, destroying a local family’s home and sparking an immediate community-wide support effort.
The blaze broke out on May 12, 2026, in the 5500 block of Drinkle Road SW in southwestern Fairfield County. More than a dozen emergency units from surrounding jurisdictions rushed to the rural location, where they encountered heavy smoke and intense flames venting from the structure.
Because the area lacks traditional fire hydrants, departments established a tanker shuttle operation to ferry water to the scene. Fire crews utilized a “surround and drown” defensive strategy, deploying multiple hose lines to drench the exterior and contain the inferno.
Fortunately, officials confirmed that all residents and first responders escaped without injury. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the structure and its contents were deemed a total loss.
“Starting Over From Nothing”
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign was launched for a family displaced by the fire. The fundraiser details the heartbreaking reality confronting a father and his children, who lost their home, clothing, personal belongings, and cherished keepsakes in an instant.
Among the items lost was a graduation cap and gown for one of the children, sparking immediate community concern as the student worried about being unable to participate in their upcoming commencement ceremony.
According to the family’s support network, they are currently facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding from scratch. The family is in urgent need of daily essentials, including:
- Food and toiletries
- Men’s clothing (Sizes: Medium, Large, and 3X)
- Men’s shoes (Sizes: 11.5–12 and 13)
