Another traffic fatality for the month of July adds to the overall number of those lost on our area roadways for 2014. Although Pickaway County has seen a slight decrease in fatalities, traffic safety advocates believe that one fatality is one too many. With the summer season coming to an end, and a new school year underway, all drivers need to aware that safety needs to be a priority all year long.

“We continue to ask drivers in Pickaway County to watch their speed, never drive impaired, and put down the phone when behind the wheel of a motor vehicle”, stated Teresa C. Carper, Safe Communities of Pickaway County Director. “We also ask that drivers and passengers continue to ‘Buckle Up Every Trip Every Time’ as a part of their routine when driving or riding in a motor vehicle.”

Safe Communities of Pickaway County cautions that the upcoming Labor Day holiday will see more traffic in the area, especially with large events being held in and near our community. “Watch Out For Motorcycles” especially during this upcoming holiday weekend, and remember that you need to “Drive Sober” or you will “Get Pulled Over”. The National Crackdown on Impaired Driving began on August 15th and will run through the Labor Day weekend. There will be extra patrols in Pickaway County and throughout the State to make sure this Labor Day is a safe one on our roadways.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration sets a complete calendar each year with a variety of safety campaigns to help reduce the number of people killed by motor vehicle crashes.
