One Sheriff Deputy Killed One Injured in a SWAT Standoff in Clermont County Last Night

CLERMOUNT – Clermont County Detective Bill Brewer was shot and killed Saturday evening following a 12 hour stand off with a suspect in Pierce Township. The standoff began when police responded to St. Andrews Drive in Pierce Township at the Green Royal Oaks Apartments around 7 p.m. for a initial report of barricaded suicidal subject according to police.

Brewer was a 20-year veteran of the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office and is survived by his wife and 5-year-old son.

“Deputy Brewer gave his life attempting to help a person who was admittedly suicidal. This will forever change the atmosphere of the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Steve Leahy.

“This Officer’s valor is now recorded for all time, written in blood,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said. “We mourn, and we will remember.”

Edward Winn

The suspect, Wade Edward Winn, 23 also shot Lieutenant Nick DeRose a 22-year-veteran, was taken to University Hospital treated and released. Edward is now in police custody.

Clermont County requested assistance from the Attorney General’s Office at 12:57 a.m. this morning. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s (BCI) crime scene unit and special investigations unit arrived shortly thereafter.

According to WLWT5, “A procession of law enforcement from across the greater Cincinnati area escorted Brewer’s body from Mercy Hospital to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy was to be conducted.”
