LANCASTER, OH — The Ohio Glass Museum officially marked its 20th anniversary with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony outside its historic downtown Lancaster facility on Tuesday, commemorating two decades of preserving the region’s rich industrial and artistic history.
Organized by the Lancaster Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce, the milestone event brought together museum staff, board members, and prominent civic leaders to honor the institution’s profound impact on local tourism and education.
Honoring Two Decades of Glass History
Among the dignitaries in attendance were State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) and Lancaster Mayor Don McDaniel. Sen. Schaffer, who recalled the museum’s early days when it was merely an ambitious concept, presented stakeholders with an official resolution from the Ohio Senate.
“Congratulations, and keep up the great work,” Schaffer told the crowd. “I hope we will be back in another 20 years.”
The celebration emphasized the museum’s crucial role in drawing visitors to the region. Jonette Haberfield, director of Visit Fairfield County, praised the facility as a major cornerstone for the area’s creative economy.
“Cheers to 20 years of glass history,” Haberfield said. “People come here for heritage tourism, art, and culture. You’ve got it all right here in one place.”

The Ohio Glass Museum originally opened its doors with a dedicated mission to safeguard and showcase the glassmaking heritage that historically defined the region’s economy. Over the past two decades, the museum has evolved significantly, expanding its collections, hosting world-class exhibitions, and operating a highly popular glassblowing studio.
Today, the museum serves as both a historical archive and an active community hub. Beyond its gallery floors and unique gift shop, the facility shares the intricate art of glassblowing with thousands of annual visitors through public demonstrations and specialized classes offered throughout the year.
