Pickaway County OH- Construction has begun on two Scioto River boat access locations in Pickaway County- South Bloomfield at State Route 316 and Elmon Richards Wildlife Area boat ramp. These areas will be closed during construction for the safety of boaters and workers.
A new boat ramp will be constructed at the South Bloomfield location, along with a gravel drive and parking lot to accommodate small trailers. This ramp will be designed for paddle crafts and small jon boats. Constructing at Elmon Richards Wildlife Area ramp will include reconfiguration of the boat ramp as well as improvements on the gravel drive to prevent wet areas.
These ramps will provide boater access to many miles of prime fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing areas. The Scioto River corridor is home to a diverse number of species including bald eagles, beavers, mink, spotted and smallmouth bass, and flathead catfish. This project is funded through a gas tax on marine fuels and the Sport Fish Restoration Act, an excise tax on fishing equipment through Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Division of Wildlife and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Designs were completed by RMF Engineering and construction will be done by McDaniel’s Construction Corp., Inc. with oversight provided by ODNR Division of Engineering.
