CIRCLEVILLE, OH – Volunteers from Helping Hands in the Garden, a cherished non-profit organization, joined forces with the Logan Elm High School football team on a heartwarming project to support a cancer patient in the LE School District. On a recent Saturday, approximately 15 dedicated young athletes from the team, guided by Head Coach Terry Holbert and his staff, helped prepare garden beds and spread mulch for a client undergoing cancer treatment. The effort was coordinated with assistance from HH Fairfield County coordinator Linda Knicely, showcasing a powerful community collaboration.
Helping Hands in the Garden, founded in 2009 by cancer survivor Elaine Euwer, was born from her personal experience of finding solace in gardening with friends during her own treatment. The organization provides free garden clean-up services to cancer patients, allowing them to focus on healing while their outdoor spaces are lovingly maintained. Euwer’s vision was to create a program rooted in community care, a mission that continues to thrive across Franklin, Fairfield, and Pickaway counties in Ohio.

The recent project highlights the therapeutic benefits of gardening, which supports physical, mental, and emotional well-being by connecting individuals with nature. Volunteers not only tend to the gardens but also welcome participation from clients to the extent they are able—whether through hands-on help or simply enjoying the process from a chair.
The organization expressed deep gratitude to Coach Holbert, his staff, and coordinator Linda Knicely for their invaluable support. Helping Hands in the Garden remains committed to easing the burden for cancer patients, offering a lifeline of care and community connection as they navigate their treatment journeys.
