CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A cherished piece of Chillicothe’s entertainment history is entering an exciting new chapter. Local entrepreneur Shane Thompson announced today that he, along with a group of investment partners, has officially purchased Shawnee Lanes to ensure the historic bowling alley remains a vibrant staple of the community.
The transition of ownership marks a passing of the torch for the long-standing facility, which recently celebrated its landmark 65th anniversary in 2024 in Chillicothe.
“We are not just purchasing a bowling alley, but becoming part of a community tradition,” Thompson said. “We are excited to continue the legacy and great atmosphere that makes Shawnee Lanes special, while creating new memories for generations to come.”
From Humble Beginnings to a 40-Lane Entertainment Hub
Shawnee Lanes originally opened its doors in 1959 as a modest 16-lane bowling center. It was founded by a syndicate of ten local businessmen who envisioned a dedicated space for family recreation in Ross County.
Over the decades, the facility stayed under the stewardship of those original founding families. As the sport grew, so did the venue, expanding into a massive 40-lane modern entertainment hub. When the long-time owners decided it was time to step away, they hand-selected Thompson to take the reins, giving him their official stamp of approval to carry on their families’ multi-generational legacy.
Today, the family-friendly facility located at 1680 N. Bridge St. continues to offer a diverse lineup of entertainment, including traditional open bowling, high-energy cosmic bowling, competitive leagues, and a full-service on-site pizzeria.
Recent Multi-Million Dollar Upgrades and Luxury VIP Lounge
The acquisition comes on the heels of a massive $2.2 million modernization project recently completed at the facility, which completely updated the main bowling infrastructure and scoring systems.
The centerpiece of that massive investment is a brand-new, ultra-modern private VIP Lounge. The upscale addition features:
- Six luxury bowling lanes separate from the main floor
- A private dining and lounge seating area
- A dedicated top-shelf bar
- High-tech ceiling projectors that cast interactive light effects directly onto the lanes as the balls roll
