COLUMBUS – A Viral video showed smoke rising from a Columbus South High Ollies last night but, that wasn’t the complete facts.
The video showed a large plum of black smoke over the Great Southern Shopping center located on South High just north of 270, but it wasn’t the strip mall that was on fire.
Accoridng to the Columbus Division of Fire, a fire behind Ollies in the woods area where a large homeless encampment is located was the cause of the fire. Several encampments that had plastics, wood, and other materials caught on fire and spread into the woods. They were able to get back to the location and extinguish the fire in a short amount of time. The fire did not spread to any other building and only affected the encampment. No one was hurt during the fire.
Ollies along with the rest of the strip mall located at the Great Southern Shopping Center is operating as normal today.
