Fatal Crash Investigation Underway in Athens County

Athens – The Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a tragic one-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a young man in Dover Township of Athens County. The incident occurred on March 22, 2024, around 9:45 p.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency personnel.

According to reports received by the Highway Patrol, the crash took place on U.S. Route 33 near Mile Post 9. Investigators determined that a red 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Clayton M. Six, 28, of Albany, veered off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then collided with a guardrail before re-entering the roadway, crossing the centerline, and ultimately careening off the left side of the road.

Tragically, the vehicle struck a bridge parapet, causing Clayton to be ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Clayton was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His body was transported to the Moquin Funeral Home.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from multiple agencies in responding to the scene, including the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Athens County Coroner’s Office, Athens County EMS, and Dover Township Fire Department.

As the investigation into the crash continues, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. Details surrounding the cause of the crash and any contributing factors remain under scrutiny as investigators seek to provide clarity to the grieving community and the family of the victim.
