Fairfield County – The sheriff department responded to a serious incident on Sunday

In Canal Winchester, Ohio, on May 26th, 2024, the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a shooting incident in the 7000 block of Pickerington Road.

The call, placed by an off-duty plain clothes Carroll Police Department Officer, Jean Gourgue, described a troubling road rage encounter. Gourgue reported attempting to engage the driver of a suspect vehicle, identified as Anthony Dugger (29), who allegedly brandished a firearm, fired three shots, and threatened Gourgue before retreating into a nearby residence. Deputies promptly arrived at the scene, but Dugger refused to leave the property.

Subsequently, a search warrant was secured, and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called in. Dugger was later apprehended inside the residence without resistance and has been charged with Felonious Assault.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, with Sheriff Lape expressing gratitude to all involved personnel and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for their support.
