The Pickaway County Park District is offering a variety of free events throughout May, inviting residents to enjoy the outdoors while contributing to community efforts. From educational hikes to volunteer opportunities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Kicking off the month on May 4th at 11:00 am is the “Spring Ephemeral Wild Flower ID Hike” at Metzger Preserve (300 Ballard Ave., Williamsport, Ohio 43164). Nature enthusiasts can join this guided hike to learn about the beautiful wildflowers that bloom during springtime.

On May 6th, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, volunteers are invited to Canal Park for a “Volunteer Event” focused on planting the front sign and participating in a trash pickup session. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and help maintain the park’s beauty.

Another volunteer event is scheduled for May 15th, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, at Park Headquarters. Volunteers will be tasked with landscaping the front beds and caring for the pollinator patch, contributing to the park’s sustainability efforts.

Mark your calendars for May 25th at 10:00 am, when Canal Park will host the “Alien Invasion: Invasive Plants versus Natives” event (23352 Canal Road, Circleville, Ohio 43113). Participants will learn about the impact of invasive plant species on native flora and fauna, and how to combat them.

Wrapping up the month on May 31st at 6:00 pm is the “Spring Tree ID Hike” at Park District Headquarters (16405 US 23, South Bloomfield, Ohio 43103). Join this informative hike to learn how to identify various tree species and appreciate the diversity of the park’s flora.
