Columbus – Man Jumps Off Bridge into Water after High Speed Chase, Saved from Rushing Water

In the early hours of May 7, 2024, a Franklin County Deputy initiated a pursuit after attempting to stop a driver in a stolen Jeep near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Huy Road in Columbus. Despite repeated directives to halt, the driver refused to comply, prompting a high-speed chase.

The pursuit continued until approximately 4:06 am when the suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle on S. Hamilton Road and attempted to escape on foot. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the suspect leaped off a bridge into the water below.

Responding swiftly to the situation, the Columbus Fire Department Water Rescue team was summoned. After an intense thirty-minute search, the suspect was located clinging to a tree branch. Despite the perilous circumstances, the rescue operation proceeded smoothly, and the suspect was safely taken into custody. He was later transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The apprehended individual has been identified as 45-year-old Adam Garber. Detectives have filed charges against him, including felony receiving stolen property and failure to comply. The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
