MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A driver escaped what could have been a much more serious crash Tuesday evening after a tree suddenly fell into the roadway in Madison Township.
According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol crash report, the incident happened around 5:45 p.m. Aug. 11 on Township Road 20, also known as Duvall Road.
The driver was traveling eastbound when a tree fell directly in front of her vehicle.
The vehicle struck the tree and then ran off the right side of the roadway into a roadside ditch.
According to the crash report, the driver was able to regain control of the vehicle and drive back onto the roadway.
The crash report lists the weather as cloudy and the roadway as wet. The tree was identified as the first harmful event in the crash.
The driver, identified as 34-year-old Shaylyn Ranee Allen of Logan, was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The report indicates the driver was not trapped or ejected, and there were no apparent injuries reported.
The vehicle, a 2026 Kia Sportage, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Trooper Robert Sabo responded to the scene, and the investigation lasted approximately 161 minutes.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can develop quickly during severe or unsettled weather, particularly when trees or branches fall onto roadways.
