BEAVERCREEK, Ohio — The beaver has officially been recognized as a symbol of the Beavercreek community.
During its latest meeting, Beavercreek City Council unanimously passed Resolution 26-37, formally affirming the beaver as a representation of the city’s history, geography and identity.
A special guest was also on hand for the occasion — Bucky the Beaver, the mascot of Beavercreek City Schools.
The connection between Beavercreek and the beaver dates back more than 200 years. Early European hunters and pioneer settlers named Big Beaver Creek and Little Beaver Creek after the native beaver population that lived in the area. That connection dates back to the community’s founding in 1803.
According to the resolution, the beaver represents more than a business or marketing symbol. It is recognized as part of Beavercreek’s identity, history and values shared by generations of residents.
The resolution also recognizes local schools, athletic programs, youth organizations, community groups and locally owned businesses that use the Beavercreek name and beaver imagery.
City officials say the recognition celebrates more than two centuries of history and the role the beaver continues to play as a symbol of the Beavercreek community.
