Commercial Point – Commercial Point Council is considering contracting with Pickaway Sheriff for police coverage in the town and removing the current towns police force.

According to the agreement the Village will agree to pay the sheriff 339,000.00, the village would furnish the substation (Commercial Point police department), the Sheriff Deputies would use the Villages patrol vehicles and equipment, the village would upkeep all the equipment and fuel the vehicles will be the cost of the village.

According to Councilwoman Tracy Duvall-Joiner this could save the town 60,000 plus per year.

The Sheriff would populate the town with 24/7 coverage like your typical police department, and would do certain functions like normal police duties, serving police papers, and other duties in cooperation with Village functions.

According to the Sheriff he may need to increase the number of deputies he has to give the town the correct coverage if this agreement is passed by council.

The contract will be heard and Sheriff Radcliff will be at the monday council meeting to answer question about the agreement.

In November Former Mayor Gary Joiner held a special trial against Police Chief Adam Jordan was charged with violating village ordinances, state law, and polices.
