Columbus Shooting Update: Officer Shot, Suspect Dead in Morning Shootout

COLUMBUS – According to the US Marshalls Press Release, At approximately 9:20 am ET, December 8, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio, Deputy U.S. Marshals (DUSMs) and task force officers (TFOs) assigned to the US Marshals-led Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Task Force (SOFAST) were conducting a fugitive investigation in the 2700 block of Four Seasons Drive for an individual wanted by the Columbus Police Department for aggravated robbery.

As the law enforcement officers were taking the individual into
custody, an unknown male began firing at the officers from a nearby closet, striking a DUM in the upper torso.

In response to the threat, officers discharged their firearms, striking the unknown subject. Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and rendered aid. The DUSM was transported to a local hospital and is undergoing treatment. The unknown suspect was transported to a local hospital where he died.

No other injuries to law enforcement personnel or civilians were reported. Local law enforcement is attempting to determine the identity of the unknown suspect. Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) are leading the investigation into the incident.
