Circleville, OH – Circleville City Council has lost one of its members, as Zack Brooks announced his resignation from the council effective immediately. Brooks, who was serving his first term after filling a vacant seat, was the only Democrat on the council.

Brooks is known for being very vocal on the Circleville Police Department controversy and having a lot of support from the people.

In a statement delivered to Council President Barry Keller, Brooks cited personal matters as the reason for his departure. “I regret to inform you that due to personal matters, I will not be able to continue to serve on the council,” Brooks wrote. “My resignation will be effective immediately.”

Brooks, who had originally run for mayor before deciding to pursue the open council position, thanked his fellow council members and the community for their support over the past 11 months. “It has been an absolute honor and privilege to serve this community,” he said in his statement.

The Pickaway County Democratic Party will now be tasked with filling Brooks’ seat on the council. As the only Democrat on Circleville City Council, his departure leaves an open spot for a new representative from the Democratic Party.

Brooks’ resignation marks the end of what had been a busy first year on the council, during which he had navigated a number of complex issues facing the city. His sudden departure will leave a gap in the council’s dynamic, and residents and officials alike will be looking to the Democratic Party to appoint a replacement.
