CHILLICOTHE, OH — In a major step toward modernizing healthcare for Southern Ohio’s heroes, the Chillicothe VA Medical Center announced today that it will officially transition to a new Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system on June 6, 2026.

The move is part of a nationwide Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) initiative to create a seamless, lifelong medical history for those who have served.

A Single, Standardized Record
The new system, powered by Oracle Health, is the same platform currently utilized by the Department of Defense (DOD). By using a shared system, the VA ensures that a Veteran’s medical data—from their initial enlistment through their post-service care—is stored in one secure, accessible location.

Key benefits of the Federal EHR include:

Real-Time Access: Healthcare teams can view military service records, federal partner data, and community provider notes instantly.

Increased Efficiency: Standardized records reduce the need for manual file transfers and redundant testing.

Continuity of Care: Veterans moving between the DOD and VA systems will no longer face “gaps” in their medical history.

What Veterans Should Expect During the Transition
To ensure a smooth rollout, Chillicothe VA staff and providers are currently undergoing intensive training and practice sessions. As a result, the facility is preparing for a temporary shift in operations:

Limited Appointment Availability: The medical center will limit on-site appointments in the coming weeks to allow staff time for system training.

Community Referrals: From mid-May through June, Veterans may see an increase in referrals to community providers to ensure their healthcare needs continue to be met during the transition.

Patience Requested: Officials are asking Veterans for their support and patience as the team navigates the launch of this high-tech platform.

A Mission for the Future
“This transition enables the continued provision of high-quality, safe, and efficient health care to those who have served in the nation’s military,” the VA stated in its release. The new system is designed to support the VA’s mission for decades to come by putting the Veteran’s entire health story at the fingertips of their doctors.
