Chillicothe Police Blotter: Motorcycle Pursuit, Stolen Vehicle Report, and “Jaywalking” Hazard

CHILLICOTHE, OH — The Chillicothe Police Department handled 18 incidents on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, ranging from serious domestic violence investigations to high-risk traffic enforcement and warrant services at the local jail.


Major Incidents & Investigations

  • Stolen Vehicle Investigation: At 5:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Amaco station at 61 N. Bridge Street following a report of a possible stolen vehicle. The incident led to additional charges of Obstructing Official Business and the service of an outstanding warrant. The investigation remains active.
  • Domestic Violence: Late Tuesday night, police responded to the 500 block of W. 5th Street regarding a domestic violence call. Officers noted the offense as “Knowingly Harm,” and the case is currently under investigation.
  • Park Theft: Early Tuesday morning, a cell phone was reported stolen from Mary Lou Patton Park. Police are following up on leads; the investigation is pending.

Traffic Enforcement & Hazards

  • Motorcycle Pursuit and Citation: An officer patrolling near S. Paint and 8th Street attempted to stop an orange motorcycle after noticing the rider, William Benson, was not wearing legal eye protection and had no license plate displayed. Benson allegedly continued to the area of Patton Hill Road before stopping. It was later discovered Benson was driving under a non-compliance suspension.
  • Dangerous Crossing on Bridge St: Police initiated a stop on James Pride after he reportedly walked across North Bridge Street without a crosswalk, forcing multiple vehicles to slam on their brakes. Pride was cited for Crossing the Roadway Outside of the Crosswalk.
  • Speed Enforcement: Using LIDAR technology, officers issued several citations for speeding on S. Paint Street. Two separate vehicles—a gray truck and a gray Subaru—were clocked traveling 47 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.

Arrests and Legal Actions

  • Warrant Service: Courtney Watson was served with a Capias warrant at the Ross County Jail for a probation violation stemming from an original theft charge. She is being held in lieu of bond and was scheduled for court this morning.
  • Credit Card Misuse: A victim arrived at the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) lobby at 11:31 a.m. to file a formal complaint regarding the misuse of a credit card.

Community Nuisance & Welfare

  • Harassment: Officers responded to Belleview Avenue at 2:03 p.m. for a report of telecommunications harassment.
  • Unruly Child: A domestic dispute on Caldwell Street resulted in a report for an unruly child; the situation remains under investigation by the department.
  • Mary Lou Patton Park Trespass: A disorderly conduct call at the park resulted in a criminal trespass warning for an individual on the premises.
