Update – Body Identified that was Recovered from Hocking River in Lancaster, Ohio

Lancaster, Ohio (January 16, 2024) – At approximately 12:32 p.m. today, Lancaster Police responded to a report of a body floating in the Hocking River near the bridge at the 1100 block of N. Pierce Avenue.

Lancaster medics arrived on the scene and immediately began life-saving measures. However, the individual was subsequently transported to Fairfield Medical Center where they were pronounced deceased.

Lancaster Police detectives have initiated an investigation into the incident, and have now released the identity of the person as 50-year-old Johnny Griffin, who was homeless. No information was released on how he got into the river at this time.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time,” stated a spokesperson for the Lancaster Police Department. “We are committed to thoroughly investigating this incident and will provide further updates as information becomes available.”
